Books are incredibly important and truly magical.
With the objective to inculcate the culture of reading books and spread joy and foster the growth of readers and emphasize the pleasure of reading, Agaram Public School is conducting a ‘twenty-four hours, non-stop book review’ with two hundred books of multiple genres by its staff and the students. This endeavor is to encourage the students and the staff to maintain a transformed respect for the matchless contributions of books in our lives and at the same time to acknowledge the insurmountable contributions of significant writers, publishers, who have aided the social and cultural progress of humanity.
Sharing the honest opinion about the book, the message of the author, specific aspects why the reader liked the book/ what moved him/ inspired him, speaking about the main characters, their actions and behaviors, justifying how the book is worth reading, clarity and precision–are the basic ingredients that make up a book review. Yet it’s the tone and style with which the book reviewer speaks that brings the extra panache.
The Agaramates’ book reviews, for instance, will be much more formal and proficient, as it is catering to a different audience. However, at the end of the day, the goal of all book reviews is to give the audience the tools to determine whether or not they’d like to read the book themselves.
The staff and the students will review Self-help books such as Obstacle is the way by Ryan Holiday, Skill It Kill It by Ronnie Screwvala, You Can Win by Shiv Khera, You Can Read Anyone by David J Lieberman, Moving on by ShashiDeshpande, Fictions such as The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne, Children’s literature- the Wizard of the OZ by L Frank Baum, Milo’s Big Mistake by Lucy Daniels, Fantasy such as the Battle for Crystal Castle by Elisabetta Maria Dami, Thrillers such as Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief by Rick Riodarn, Adventurous- Geronimo Stilton the Journey through Time, the Call of the Man Eater, Black Panther of Sivanipalli by Kenneth Anderson, The Time Machine by HG Wells, Biography- Velpari by Venkatesan, PonniyinSelvan by AmararKalkiyan, Detectives for instance Thea Stilton and the Mystery in Paris by Elisabetta Maria Dami, Fairy tales– Mummy Fairy and Me by Sophie Kinsella etc., and many more to sit back and enjoy the energetic show.

'Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body'. Just like our bodies, our brain is an organ that will age with time, and is directly affected by how we use it. We exercise physically to keep our bodies in shape, get our endorphins pumping, our muscles contracting, whereas intellectual stimulation provides the exercise that our brains require to stay fit. Reading stimulates imagination, visualisation and coherent thought processes. This in turn enhances creativity and widens one's perception. Read to Lead is one of the flagship program for agaramates to inculcate the habit of reading in their formative years. Through this program children read books of their choice with consultation and guidance from teachers. After they finish reading they threadbare analyse the book and present the gist and salient features of the book to their fellow students and teachers in the forum- Read to Lead. This not only makes their learning concrete but also improves their presentation skills and self confidence. At the end of their presentation they also take questions from the audience which tests their in depth reading of the book. On successful defence of their presentation they are awarded with a covetous certificate which adds credit to their internal assessments.
